Gear Up Girl Central Coast

Come on ladies, let’s gear up and help set a world record for the ‘largest women’s community bicycle ride’ on 12 March 2017. Whether you are a beginner or experienced rider, the Central Coast Bicycle User Group (CCBUG) has a ride for you. Choose from 12km, 25km or 40km routes riding alongside the beautiful Central Coast waterways or beaches.

After the ride, all rider’s in the Gear Up Girl Central Coast will converge for a celebratory morning tea (included in entry fee). Every rider will also receive a free CCBUG membership which helps the bicycle user group and all riders of a bicycle on the Central Coast.

Route description:

The 12km Gear Up Girl Central Coast ride is a nice flat beginners ride, mostly along shared paths from Woy Woy to Ocean Beach Umina. Starting at Fisherman’s Wharf and heading along the Coastal Cycleway (shared path) along Brisbane Waters, then crossing Blackwall Rd at traffic lights and beside the PLC, we join up with the Trafalgar Ave shared path which gets us almost all the way to Umina!

The 25km Gear Up Girl Central Coast ride takes riders from Woy Woy to Gosford Boomerang. This ride is a relaxed paced ride at 15-17kph average speed. The route will take riders along the beautiful Coastal Cycleway (or Point to Pelicans cycleway/shared path). The ride is perfect for those stepping up from beginner/easy rides, such as the Cruise & Coffee ride, but not yet ready for the Central Coast Bicycle User Group (CCBUG) Loop de Brisbane Waters ride. Suited to road, hybrid or mountain bikes, this ride starts at the Fishermans Wharf (just a few minutes ride from Woy Woy train station) and ends back in Woy Woy.

The 40km Gear Up Girl Central Coast ride will be a moderate paced ride around Brisbane Waters. This ride is perfect for those stepping up from easier rides, like the CCBUG Woy Woy to Gosford Boomerang ride. Mostly on road shoulders and shared paths, with some normal traffic roads, so you need to be comfortable cycling on the road with some passing traffic. Ride pace will be slower on the shared path sections, picking up on the road sections.

Rest Stops

The ride leaders will keep the group together at all time, there will be regroup points and a sweep rider on each ride.

The 12km ride will stop at the Ocean Beach Umina, which is the turnaround point of the ride. There are toilets and water available at this point.

The 25km ride will stop at Tascott and Gosford waterfront, where there are toilets and water available.

For the 40km ride there will be a stop at Kincumber and Gosford waterfront. At both there are water and toilets available.

Getting there

Come by train to Woy Woy station. The Fishermans Wharf is just around the corner. This is the start location of the 12 and 25km riders. For the 40km the train station is the start location.

If you are driving, there is limited parking available at Brick Wharf Rd.
